SECI’s mission is to eradicate curable blindness will be incomplete without extending its services to the needy and underprivileged sections of society. Currently, Sankara has 6 institutions across India that offer highly specialised diagnostic & surgical eye care to the visually impaired.
Sankara Eye Centre, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
Built on 5.26 acres of gifted land the Sankara Eye Centre was established in 1991. Through unstinted community participation and with support from other service agencies, it has now blossomed into a 400 bed specialty ophthalmic world class hospital. Sankara Eye Centre, Coimbatore has been recognised as a post graduate training institute by the Diplomat of the National board, as well as by the National Association for Prevention of Blindness, Government of India.

This 200-bed eye hospital is a dream of the Sankara Eye Foundation, USA, the Telugu Association of North America and the Bay Area Telugu Association. As a commitment to the next generation the institution has an exclusive Sankara-ORBIS pediatric eye department.
Sankara Rural Eye Hospital, Krishnaarpanam, Tamil Nadu
Dr. Vivekananda Raja, after completing his post graduation in the year 1979 was involved in a project on corneal mycosis (fungal infections). He realised that most patients, if treated early, could have been prevented from becoming blind. Also, majority of the patients were from the rural region and poverty, ignorance and poor hygiene coupled with poor medical infrastructure prevented early treatment. With support from his family and local donors, he established the Sankara Rural Eye Hospital near the temple town of Srivilliputhur around 70 kms south of Madurai. This hospital managed by Dr. Vivekananda Raja became part of the Sankara Institution hospitals in 2004. The transition was facilitated by Mission for Vision while the entire renovation and equipments was funded by Mr. Devidas N. Budhrani, Trustee, MFV. Mr. Budhrani not only continued his support but also funded the phase II expansion. With this expansion, the bed capacity has been increased to 200.
Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore, Karnataka
SECI took a major step in their march towards Vision 20/20 with the inauguration of the super specialty eye hospital and training centre in Bangalore on 9th March 2008. The 225 bed eye care facility was inaugurated by Shri Sudhakar Rao, IAS Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka. This hospital is among the foremost in eye care in this region. Established on a 4.5 acres campus on the HAL Airport-Whitefield Road in the IT capital of Bangalore, the centre is well accessible to the most parts of the city. The hospital is equipped to complete entire family’s eye care needs-from routine eye exams to the latest advances in medical care, including Lasik laser treatment and eye surgery, all in the specially designed facility. Equipped with latest in diagnostics including Ultrasounds, Lasers, Digital Angiography, Electro-diagnostic services, it provides a comprehensive service to its patients.
Sankara Eye Hospital, Shimoga, Karnataka
The 225 bed Sankara Eye Hospital, Shimoga is the region’s largest independent eye hospital. The construction of the community wing has been sponsored by the Kewalram Chanrai Family of Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai and hence the community wing is called as Jaslok Community Ophthalmic Centre. The hospital would be a centre of excellence for those with visual impairment requiring rapid access to ophthalmic diagnosis , treatment and continuing care.
